3D VR spatial interaction
OK, they're pretty big words .. just read *THIS STUFF IS LOADS OF FUN!*
I know, I know, you're sick of hearing about virtual reality. Our commitment to all things virtual has been well covered on these pages, but we have to tell you what we've been up to this week!
So on the one hand we have an Intel RealSense camera - developer edition, but just the kind of stereoscopic webcam you'll find on most laptops in 18 months. On the other hand, we have the Oculus Rift. But how could we possibly tie the two together?
If in doubt, introduce a spaceship!
We created a virtual space and dropped in this funky-looking 3D yellow spaceship model. From there, it was just a case of integrating the Oculus SDK with RealSense's SDK, to create our own spaceship-flying "game". It swoops and turns to follow the real-world movement of your hand hand through a virtual universe - all in smooth stereoscopic 3D. And it actually looks pretty cool :)
So what use is it? What does it actually do? Well, we're not completely sure yet. But one thing's certain: we're gonna have a lot of fun finding out :)
