A Font For Everyman
A German ad agency has been commissioned by Bic as a branding exercise, to come up with a handwritten typeface, based on the handwriting of people from all sorts of backgrounds.
It’s certainly an interesting experiment but as is generally the case, if you go for the average you will end up with something that is, well, average in every way. Should make for a nice legible and safe handwritten font.
The font will be ready by the autumn but you can check out progress at http://theuniversaltypeface.com/explore/industry
In other typeface news, I just stumbled across a very nice new geometric Slab Serif font, called Choplin. It’s currently on sale at Myfonts . Definately one of the nicest new font families I’ve seen in a while.
