Amazon have announced that they have just beat Google by purchasing gaming site Twitch to the tune of 970 million Dollars.
So why would Amazon purchase a Social Network? Well they did it before with GoodReads and faced a backlash after censoring reviews and ratings. Seems the large Corporate internet bodies just can’t get enough of diversifying their Revenue streams. Once upon a time Amazon was known for selling books. Now they sell pretty much everything both real and virtual (we love their Web services and are working on some exciting Web projects that require the power that decentralised cloud services can provide.)
They really are becoming the A-Z of everything online. Of course, the real potential of keeping Twitch a success is pretty obvious - advertising and games purchases.
